Before the Mourning

The year is 1553, and Jaakob--heir to the House of Buxhoeveden, has just gotten married. His wife, Bogdana Khanenko, is a maiden of radiant beauty, and a humble model of the Orthodox virtue. However not everything is well in their Honeymoon spot of Parnu.

After a horriffic nightmare, Jaakob awakens to find something has gone wrong: the window is open, there's blood on the bed, and Bogdana is missing! And what's more, his face won't show up in a mirror, he has a pair of narrow holes in the side of his neck, and his canines have grown long and sharp--he's been bitten by a vampire!

A mysterious voice from beyond tells of how he has until dawn, before he becomes of the night, forever! What a way to spend your wedding night.

Before he heads out, with the clock ever ticking, the voice asks Jaakob what he's leaving for, and what he fears for, most.

His Wife?

His Noble Family?

Or His Immortal Soul?

Thus Jaakob enters a harrowing venture of love, pain, politics, and religion.
